Here are some points for reference.
Language barrier:
A language barrier between Chinese and Portuguese can be a challenge. Most of the time, using English as a communication tool is effective. Otherwise, professional interpreters, or even an online translation website, like DeepL, is needed.
Time zone difference:
There is an 11-hour time difference between China and Brazil. When it is morning in China, it is nighttime in Brazil. For an effective business transaction, we need to establish effective communication channels, such as WhatsApp or email. And planning meetings and phone calls in advance.
Payment terms:
The most recommended way is a bank transfer. Paid by credit card is also supported.
Incoterms:
Incoterms are a set of rules that define the responsibilities of the buyer and seller in trade transactions.
Usually, Hotowell recommends 2 terms.
EXW, "Ex Works"
Hotowell is only responsible for preparing the goods in the agreed place of shipment, usually our office or factory. The clients should bear all charges of shipment, customs clearance, etc.
FOB, “Free on Board”
This term is more recommended if the clients have their freight forwarder in China. Under this term, Hotowell should be responsible for the following things apart from preparing the goods.
-Shipping the goods to the forwarder’s address
-Applying to customs
-Preparing necessary documents
-Giving the forwarder the necessary authority, etc
The extra cost caused should be borne by clients.
Customs clearance:
Customs clearance in Brazil can be a complex process. So it is recommended to seek the services of a professional customs broker to assist you in customs clearance procedures, as they will be familiar with the local requirements and procedures.
